Welcome to the new web site for the Canadian Foster Family Association!
The Canadian Foster Family Association is a national organization incorporated in 1987 with a mandate to speak as a collective voice for foster families throughout the country. Its primary goal is to enhance the quality of care provided to children in Canada.
Our Mission Statement:
- Uniting the foster parent organizations in the Provinces and Territories of Canada in the effective resolution of common problems and concerns;
- Providing a central resource for information and communication to and between the member organizations and social service agencies associated with foster parenting;
- Providing developmental support to member organizations;
- Consulting with Health & Welfare and other departments of Canada and its provinces and Territories in the enhancement of foster care programs;
- Creating public awareness of the role and contributions of foster families in Canada; and participation as a member of the International Foster Care Organization.

2. The Objectives of the Association
To create public awareness of the role and contributions of foster families in Canada;
To unite provincial and territory foster parent organizations throughout Canada to facilitate the effective resolution of common issues and concerns;
To provide a central resource for information sharing and communication between member organizations and the service agencies associated with foster parenting;
To provide on-going support to member organizations;
To work in collaboration and partnership with Health Canada and other Federal Government departments for the enhancement of the foster care system in Canada.

3. Organizational Structure
The Canadian Foster Family Association is run by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of foster parents from across Canada. The Board of Directors is elected by voting delegates at the Annual General Meeting.
The Board positions are as follows: President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, 3rd Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Past President and one delegated Director representing each regular member organization.

5. The Role of A Foster Parent
Children have a right to a safe nurturing home environment, protection, support, love and understanding, healthcare, education and justice. The children of our country are our greatest asset. Foster Parents are committed to ensuring that the needs of children in care are met.
Foster parents play a vital role in enabling children placed in their care to become mature, responsible, productive adults. Foster Parents make a valuable contribution to our society. There are approximately 35,000 foster families throughout Canada who perform the important task of nurturing children.
Foster Families come from all walks of life and their primary motivation is an interest in making a difference in the lives of children. The recruitment and retention of foster homes is an on-going challenge in all provinces and territories.
Foster Parents work as part of a professional team towards the goal of family reunification. They are the heart of the Foster Care Program.

6. Funding Source
The Canadian Foster Family Association is a registered not for profit Association and does not receive any government funding. The Association is maintained through its membership fees, donations and the generosity of communities in fundraising initiatives.

7. What can you do to support children in care and/or foster families in Canada?
- Become involved at the local, provincial or national level.
- Become a member of the Canadian Foster Family Association.
- If you are a foster parent, talk with your family, friends, co-workers, etc about your experiences and encourage other to become foster parents.
- If you have ever considered being a foster parent, contact your provincial or territorial association for more information.
- Make a donation (monetary or otherwise) to the Canadian Foster Family Association.
- Take time to educate yourself and others about foster care in Canada.
